If you have in mind to live and work longer than three months in Switzerland you must ask your employer for a residence permit. There are four types of stay permits: B, C, L and G. Learn more about them on our following paragraphs.
What are the different stay authorizations?
Below, we have listed for you the different types of permits that are available on our country:
- B permit: the B permit is delivered to people who have an employment contract and are nationals of the European Union. The contract can be a fixed-term contract, which has to be comprised of a work period of at least 12 months. The other option is to possess a declaration of commitment instead of the employment contract. You could also have an indeterminate employment contract. Finally, this permit lasts for 5 years.
- C permit: the C permit is permanent. This permit is delivered to nationals of the European Union who are employed. You must also have lived in Switzerland for 5 years at least. This permit will allow you to do things like buying a real estate, live in another canton, etc.
- G permit: a G permit is delivered to borderers who live in the European Union, but are employed in Switzerland. You need to possess an employment contract or a declaration of commitment. This permit binds you to return once a week to your country. Furthermore, the G permit is valid for 5 years. However, if the contract lasts less than 1 year, then the permit is valid for this period.
- L permit: the L permit is a 1 year permit available to nationals of the European Union. This permit is given to people who wish to reside in Switzerland or have an employment contract or declaration of commitment. Furthermore, this permit can be renewed.
